Ask the agent

The agent searches the NYC Open Data catalog, reads schemas, writes SoQL, and queries live. Every figure it reports comes from a tool call you can watch happen — it has no NYC data memorised.

What the agent can and cannot do

It queries live, it does not remember NYC — The agent searches the catalog, reads a dataset's schema, then writes and runs a query against the portal. Numbers come back from Socrata at the moment you ask — and it can still be wrong about which dataset to ask.

Check the dataset it chose — The most common failure is a confident answer from a plausible but wrong dataset: NYPD complaints has a historic file and a year-to-date file, and they give very different totals. The agent names its sources; it is worth reading which.

Research mode writes back — Deeper questions cost many queries. In research mode the agent saves its conclusion with the query that produced it, so the next person gets it for free and can check the working. Those land in Findings.

One question, one answer. Turn on research mode for deeper work.
